Gene Flemming Kelly

Gene Flemming Kelly, husband of Virginia Lawrimore Kelly, passed away on January 18, 2025. Born in Florence, SC, on July 12, 1933, to the late Newman P. Kelly and Vera Flemming Kelly, he was raised in Kingsburg, SC. He was a graduate of Johnsonville High School, Spartanburg Junior College, and Columbia Commercial College where he received a degree in accounting.
Gene served in the US Army from 1954 – 1956 and was stationed in Korea during that time. He retired as a chief petroleum auditor from the SC Department of Agriculture after 40 years of service. He was a member of West Columbia First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years; a son, Michael Gene Kelly (Angela Hill) of West Columbia, SC; a daughter, Karen Kelly Eubanks of Lexington, SC; a granddaughter, Kelly Howell (Nick); and great granddaughter, Mollie Howell of Lexington, SC. He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Carolyn Kelley of Johnsonville, SC; his brother, Alan B. Kelly of Johnsonville, SC; and son-in-law, Martin Eubanks.
Visitation will be held at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at 1:00 pm, with a funeral service following at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Woodridge Memorial Park, Lexington, SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the Shriners’ Hospital, 950 West Faris Rd. Greenville, SC 29605.
