September 5th, 1923 - January 9th, 2025
Lois Fern Goodwin,101, of Colorado Springs, Colorado died peacefully in her home on January 9, 2025. She was born to Robert J. and Mary Gladys (Beck) Wohlgemuth on September 5, 1923, in Washington County, Kansas—the second oldest of 6 children.
Lois grew up in several small eastern Kansas towns since her father was a Presbyterian minister. When she was old enough, she sometimes played the piano for services. Once she left home, she attended a year of business school and then did office work during World War II for Beach Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas. She married Bryce S. Goodwin after the war on May 25, 1946, and started a family. She worked for the Federal government in Wichita, Kansas, and eventually transferred to Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1955. She worked in various payroll positions advancing to payroll supervisor and retired in the early 80s.
Free time was spent camping and fishing with the family. The family traveled all around to camp and try new fishing spots. She loved reading, working puzzles, canning food, and cooking. She was well known for making amazing Christmas candy. Her favorites were divinity and fudge. Lois was a knitting expert making clothing, blankets, and more for herself, family, and friends. She traveled to Scotland several times, Germany, and visited her grandfather’s hometown in Switzerland. He was a baker and immigrated to the United States.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Bryce S. Goodwin; daughter, Angela Budde; siblings Warren Wohlgemuth, Miriam Knox, Doris Little, Shirley Marken, and Dean Wolgemuth and their spouses except Ann Kay (Dean’s spouse).
Lois is survived by 2 sons: Bryce Goodwin and Ken (Brenda) Goodwin; several grandchildren Clint (Connie) Nickum, Kira Goodwin, Kelsey (Josh) Barram, Shelby Goodwin, and Joelle Goodwin. Great grandchildren; Kylie Nickum, Amara Barram, and Valerie Barram. She leaves many other family and friends who will miss her sadly.
