Michael "Big Mike" W. Thompson
April 19th, 1966 - January 17th, 2025
Michael W. Thompson, “Big Mike,” age 58, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away peacefully at home on January 17, 2025. Born on April 19, 1966, Michael lived a life defined by his love for family, service, and faith.
A proud U.S. Navy veteran, Michael served his country honorably from December 1986 to December 1990. His service shaped his values and sense of duty, and he carried those lessons with him long after his military career ended.
On June 29, 1985, Michael married the love of his life, Kimberly Thompson, beginning a partnership that lasted nearly 40 years. Together, they built a loving home and shared a deep bond that was central to Mike's life.
In most recent years, Michael found immense joy in coaching his grandson's community soccer team. His commitment to his family was evident, and he was proud to be actively involved in his grandchildren’s lives, passing on his love for sports - including his favorite teams, the Dallas Cowboys and the Oklahoma Sooners - and life’s values.
A believer in God, Michael was a man whose life reflected his convictions. He found strength in his religious beliefs and lived them through his actions, extending kindness, generosity, and a steady presence to those around him.
Michael’s family and friends will remember him for his unwavering support, his sense of humor, and his devotion to his loved ones. He is survived by his wife Kimberly, of Colorado Springs, his brothers, Kevin Thompson (Lisa Hiatt) of Metter, GA, and Mark Thompson (Donna Vann) of Decatur, AR, his children, Michael Thompson Jr. (Melonie Carrillo) of Colorado Springs, David Thompson of Colorado Springs, Kristina Smith (Jacob Smith) of Colorado Springs, Elaina Dewbre (Jeremy Dewbre) of Weatherford, OK, and Antwon Robinson of Chickasha, OK, grandchildren, Anthony, Waylon, Thatcher, Raymon, Kolby, Karly, Lucas, Hanna Houston (Jesus Ferreli), Gavin Houston, Garon Dewbre, with more grandchildren on the way, and numerous extended family members such as his sisters-in-law Rhonda Bradley of Miami, OK, and Donna Bradley of Siloam Springs, OK, and many “adoptive” children, Nieces, Nephews and treasured friends.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held at All Veterans Burial & Cremation, 1020 E. Fillmore St. Colorado Springs, Colorado 80907 where loved ones will gather to honor his memory at 3:00PM.
Big Mike will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of service, faith, and love will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to be part of his life.
