Shirley Berniece Hackworth passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 20th, 2025, following a brief illness. Shirley was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, whose kind and caring spirit touched all who knew her.

Born to William and Emma Ledlie on April 22nd, 1950, in Mason, West Virginia, Shirley spent her life surrounded by love and nature. She graduated from Rutland High School in Rutland, Ohio, in 1968, and carried with her a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life—especially her love for animals, particularly horses and cats, which always brought her joy.

Shirley’s family was the center of her world. She is survived by her loving companion, Kevin Doyle; her sister, Carol Crabtree; and her devoted children: Karen Pennington, Christopher (Suzanna) Merrill, Timothy (Heidi) Hackworth, and Kylie (Daniel) Armijo. She was a proud grandmother to her cherished grandchildren: Billy, Brittany, Mavis, Violet, and Emma, all of whom held a special place in her heart. She is also survived by her nieces, Julie Bays and Jodi Taylor, who were dear to her.

Shirley’s warmth, generosity, and love will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor and remember the beautiful soul she was.
