Juan "John" Carrillo
January 11th, 1945 - January 13th, 2025
On Monday, Jan.13th, 2025 our dad entered into the glorious kingdom of heaven. He was reunited with our mom, Ida. Together they will worship their Savior throughout eternity.
Juan “John” Carrillo was born in Salt Lake City, UT on Jan. 11, 1945, to Martin and Mariquita Casuas Carrillo and was the youngest of 12 children. He played basketball and football and was a member of ROTC at West High School from where he graduated in 1963. Shortly after high school he reunited with a childhood friend he knew from church. Their reunion quickly became a romance that would turn into almost 60 years of marriage. He married Leonore Ida Carrillo on March 21st, 1964, and they began their lifelong journey together raising four children. John was a skilled craftsman and journeyman carpenter. In 1976 he built the family a new home in Sandy, UT. From there they moved to Farmington, NM in 1982 and he continued to work in construction while starting a church mission. In the spring of 1983, the family moved to Greeley, CO where John and Ida’s family would begin to grow. Over the next several years they welcomed two daughters-in-law and two sons-in-law, nine grandchildren, and eventually six great-grandchildren into their lives. John continued his work in construction until 2012 when he finally retired. He filled his days with remodeling his home, woodworking, and creating crafts that he and Ida enjoyed working on together. He also spent a lot of hours working on his church, Upper Room Ministries Church of God. He loved using his skill to maintain and beautify the Lord’s house. Anytime anyone needed help, Dad was there to lend a hand. Those who knew him will remember how much he loved spending time with family, pointing out places he had worked on, and eating chocolate cake! In 2023, his beloved bride was diagnosed with cancer and Dad was with Mom every step of the way through her journey. Just a few short months after Mom passed, Dad was also diagnosed with cancer. Dad fought valiantly for the last year but missed Mom tremendously. In his last days he longed to go be with her. John is preceded in death by his loving wife - Ida, his parents, nine siblings, a son-in-law, Virgil Rutherford, and grandson Noah. He is survived by his four children: Adam (Cindy) Carrillo of Highlands Ranch, CO; Sandie (Kenny) Kemp of Muskogee, OK; Myke (David) Naranjo of Greeley, CO; and John (Alicia) of Highlands Ranch, CO; eight grandchildren: Brooke (Ilia) Cheishvili, Kristen Carrillo, Page (Trent) Ghoram, “Tres” Virgil Rutherford III, Nicole Naranjo, Jonnie (Reo) Rea, Ally Carrillo and Paxton Carrillo; and six great-grandchildren.
Celebration of Life Services will be at Upper Room Ministries, 919 18th Ave, Greeley, CO. March 22, 2025 at 1:00 pm.
