Margaret Bailey Mallory
August 1st, 1930 - January 23rd, 2025
In Loving Memory
Margaret Bailey Mallory, beloved wife of the late John Daniel Mallory, Jr., went peacefully to eternal life with her children by her side on January 23, 2025. Born in Florence, South Carolina on August 1, 1930, she was the youngest of nine children to the late Ruth E. Alford Bailey Andrews and Charlie Spurgeon Bailey.
Margaret attended the University of South Carolina and dedicated her career to public service, retiring as Grants Coordinator in the Office of Grant Administration within the South Carolina Governor's Office. A devoted member of Beulah Methodist Church in Gilbert, South Carolina, she taught Sunday School and played a key role in organizing their bridge group. She was also an active member of the Marie Colberg Circle at Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church and enjoyed participating in the bridge group at the Country Club of Lexington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, John Daniel Mallory Sr. and Mildred Spencer Mallory; her husband, John Daniel Mallory Jr., to whom she was married for 53 years; her brothers, Spurgeon Bailey, Andrew Bailey, Wilson Bailey, Savage Bailey, and Charlie Bailey; her sisters, Geneva Owens, Pearl Langford, and Catherine Collins; and two sons-in-law, Dennis Botts Sr. and Terry Hutto Sr.
She is survived by her children: Dionne Botts Mills (Norman), John Daniel Mallory III (Lisa), Faye Mallory Hutto, Jayne Mallory Clark (Frank), and Robert Charles "Bobby" Mallory (Melissa). She was a proud grandmother to fourteen grandchildren: Shannon Temple (Tony), Wayne Botts (Lana), Jonathan Botts (Rebecca), Daniel Mallory IV, Micah Mallory, Drew Mallory, Terry Hutto Jr. (Adrienne), Holley Matthews (Corbin), Kellie Sharpe (Marty), Tripp Clark (Kelly), Chip Mallory, Ashley Lindler (Jonathan), Kathryn Smith (Cody), and Natalie Mallory. Her legacy continues through nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild expected in March.
Margaret was also blessed with the loving care of her special great-niece and caretaker, Sandy Harper, along with several other devoted caregivers.
Margaret's happiest moments were those spent surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She took great pride in her ever-growing family and delighted in playing cards and games with them, always ready with a quick wit, a warm smile, and a determined spirit-she played to win. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life; she spent time each day immersed in her Bible, drawing inspiration and strength from its words. She had a special gift for making everyone feel loved and never failed to pray for each family member by name, ensuring they were always in God's care.
Services will be held at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, South Carolina. Visitation will held Monday, January 27, 2025, at 11:00AM with services following at 12:00PM.
