Mary Jane Webster
November 17th, 1924 - January 8th, 2025
Mary Jane Webster, died peacefully in her sleep on Jan. 8, 2025 at the age of 100.
Born in Moberly, Missouri, she had spent most of her life in Washington state.
Mary Jane McCallum was born Nov. 17, 1924, one of 10 children of Erb and Ann McCallum. Her father was a railroad worker and her mother a school cook.
During the Great Depression, she was sent to Kansas City to live with aunts, Rose and Mary Byrne, and graduated from Glennon Catholic High School there.
During World War II, she worked for the U.S. Army’s Kansas City Quartermaster Depot, sorting and returning the personal effects of dead and wounded servicemen.
On a blind date, she met an Army sergeant, Donald H. Webster, who had been stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. They married at St. John’s Rectory in Moberly on June 14, 1945.
After the war, she and her husband returned to his hometown, Centralia, Wash., where four of their five children were born. In 1959, the family moved to the Tacoma area, settling in University Place. There Mary Jane worked as a secretary for the General Adjustment Bureau and the Weyerhaeuser Company. After moving to Renton, Wash. in 1970, she worked for the Quadrant Corporation and then for the Royal Globe Insurance Company, from which she retired.
In retirement, Mary Jane Webster lived in Steilacoom, Wash. During her later years, she suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. She passed away at Kennydale Adult Family Home in Renton, two months after celebrating her 100th birthday.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald, in 1995. She is survived by five children: Kerry Webster of Raymond, Wash.; Colleen Webster of Renton, Craig Webster of Ocean Shores, Wash., Kirk Webster of The Dalles, Ore., and Connie Webster of University Place. A sixth child, Terry Lee Webster, died at birth in 1947.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by siblings Pat Stevens of Tremont, Ill., Tony McCallum of Spokane, Wash, Mike McCallum of Moberly Missouri, and Alice Hayden of Jacksonville, Ill.
The family plans a private graveside service at Claquato Cemetery on January 31, 2025. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Dementia Society of America.
