The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want; he makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Raymond Jay Hewitt, known as Ray to his family and friends, passed away on January 22, 2025, at the age of 56.

Born on August 17, 1968, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, Ray was the son of Jay and Daneen Hewitt. He proudly served in the United States Navy, stationed on the USS Daniel Webster during the Gulf War. After his military service, Ray went on to have a successful career as a nuclear medicine physicist, working at Roper Saint Francis Healthcare System for nearly 30 years.

Outside of his career, Ray was an active and passionate individual. He loved playing softball and was an avid poker and billiards player, spending time in both local softball and pool leagues. Above all, Ray cherished the time spent with his family, close friends, and beloved pets. He was a dedicated husband, father, and “cat dad,” with a big heart for animals, often feeding local stray cats. Ray also had a deep love for travel, treating his loved ones to unforgettable getaways, with New Orleans, Las Vegas, and the Bahamas being some of his favorite spots. His genuine personality, contagious laugh, generosity, and warm sense of humor left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Ray will be deeply missed, but he will forever remain in our hearts.

Ray is survived by his wife, Selena; daughter, Bella; sister, Daneen Osten; and brother, Dan Hewitt. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 9 am.  Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.  Afterwards, reception will be at St. Patrick Catholic Church hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Charleston Animal Society.
