In Loving Memory
Our Mom passed away and earned her wings.
Victoria Douglas, 99, a beloved mother known for her creative spirit and diverse interests, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2025, at a hospice house.
Born in New York, New York to James Douglas and Alma Bailey, Victoria was a devoted mother who created a special childhood for her four children. Even after becoming a widow at a young age, she persevered, returning to school to earn a bachelor’s degree. She worked for New York City Social Services until her retirement in 1988.
Mom wasn’t much for conversation, but she enjoyed expressing herself through poetry. Mom was able to participate with Debra in building her poetry website, “Need I Say More”. We will share more about the website in the near future.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her sibling, Gwendolyn Allington and her son, Gilbert Morrishow.
Those remaining to cherish her fond memories are her daughters, Karen Morrishow and Debra Morrishow-Rankin (Dennis); son, Kevin Morrishow; grandson, Vance DeMarr Simon; great grandchildren, Justice and Honor Simon; niece, Diane Goward; nephew, Kenny Kweku and his family, Carl and Alicia Morrishow; and numerous family and friends.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to family members and friends for their outpouring of prayers and kind words during this difficult time. A special thank you to the Lighthouse Hospice Group for the exceptional care they showed to our loving mother.
A private memorial will be held later.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorial contributions be made to a place that mom loved, Leeza's Care Connection at 201 St. Andrews Road, Columbia, 29210 or go to their website: www.leezascareconnection.org . Please mention that the gift is in honor of Victoria Douglas.
