Billy ""Bill"" Eugene Thompson
April 29th, 1929 - January 11th, 2025
Billy Eugene “Bill” Thompson, 95, passed away peacefully at his apartment in Boise, ID, on January 11, 2025. Born on April 29, 1929, in Pomona, CA, Bill lived a rich and full life. Though private about his faith, he expressed his hope of being reunited with his beloved wife, Peg, and going home to Jesus.
Bill married Marianna “Peg” Sophia Bentley on January 6, 1950. They spent several years living in various Forest Service stations in the Angeles Forest, before settling in Juniper Hills, CA, where Bill worked for the Los Angeles County Fire Department. They were actively involved in the local 4-H Club and Lions Club. After over 30 years of service, he retired as a fire captain. Bill and Peg moved to Idaho in 1989, living in McCall, Council, and eventually Payette. It was in Payette that Peg lost her battle with lung cancer in 2012.
In 2013, Bill met and married Viola Haagensen. Together, they moved to Salmon Creek Retirement Center in Boise in 2018, where they enjoyed the company of other residents, the various activities, and—of course—dancing, which Bill loved. He also loved sharing his stories and experiences from his time with the fire department.
Viola preceded Bill in death in May 2021. Bill is survived by his children: Rand (Lori) Thompson, Lynda (Peter) Pond, Robyn Thompson, and Sandy (Ron) Stover. He is survived by his beloved grandchildren: Leif (Amanda) Thompson, Kedron Walker, John (Ingrid) Stover, Joe Stover, Alex (Talon) Pond, and Spencer Pond; and great-grandchildren: McKinley Thompson, Sophie Thompson, Emmersyn Thompson, Teagan Williams, Tristan Walker, Roman Walker, and Ezekiel Stover.
Bill will be remembered for his love of football, his amazing cooking (especially for Super Bowl and holiday gatherings), and his entertaining storytelling. We will always be proud of and grateful for the sacrifice he gave in serving as a 1st responder - we know he loved doing it. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, who will always cherish the time spent with him.
A family celebration of life will be planned later this year. The family would like to thank Salmon Creek for their compassionate care of Bill in his final years, as well as Horizon Hospice Care for their guidance and grace during this difficult time. Special thanks go to his caregivers, Shari Miller and Christy Martin, for their loving support. We are forever grateful for the kindness and encouragement we received from all who walked with us through this time.

We Entrusted Billy Thompson's Care To
Accent Funeral Home
A local landmark in Meridian, Accent Funeral Home has been serving the community since 1986. The business was first established with a vision to offer services in a comfortable, homelike atmosphere. This vision is reflected in our building, a Tudor-style home built in 1938 for a local postman. When remodeling the house to accommodate the funeral home, much care was taken to preserve the original architectural integrity of the building. The Accent Funeral Home holds a special relationship with the Meridian community and is sensitive to the area’s changing needs, providing service and friendship to comfort those we serve....
