Dorothea LaVonne Bokanovich, 92, died at home in Downingtown, PA on January 27, 2025. Dottie was born in Denver, CO. Her parents were Loretta Hoff Phillips and James Phillips. Dottie was a retiree of the federal government working in the Finance and Accounting Office at Ft. Jackson prior to her retirement. Dottie loved her church family and was a member of Broadacres Baptist Church in Cayce since 1980. More recently, she attended Mission Community Church in Downingtown, PA. While at Broadacres, Dottie was chosen as their very first Woman of the Year. She taught the Willing Workers Sunday School Class, was a member of the sanctuary choir, church clerk, Media Director and worked with their Blood Drive and Vacation Bible School. Dottie was a member of the international sorority Beta Sigma Phi; member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 130; Member of The Jubilant Singers; and a volunteer at W.J.B. Dorn Veterans Hospital. Dottie loved to read and garden. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Bo, especially loving to visit her grandchildren.
Dottie was preceded in death by her parents, Loretta Hoff Phillips and James Phillips, her brother Marvin Phillips, and her husband of 56 years, James “Bo” Bokanovich,
Dottie leaves behind her four children: Rebecca Peters (Mike), Richard Hart (Joy), David Hart (Pam) and Loretta Bolembach (Mark). Dottie is survived by grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other relatives through marriage.
A visitation for Dottie will be held Friday, February 7, 2025 at 10:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM at Broadacres Baptist Church, 2350 Taylor Road, Cayce, SC 29033. Interment at Ft. Jackson immediately follows the service for family members only.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Broadacres Baptist Church Building Fund, Broadacres Baptist Church, 2350 Taylor Road, Cayce, SC 29033 or to Mission Community Church One Mission Fund, Mission Community Church, 216 E. Lancaster Ave, Downingtown, PA 19335.
Thompson Funeral Home in Lexington is handling arrangements for the family.
