Joyce Elaine Lewis
March 27th, 1932 - December 26th, 2024
Joyce Elaine Lewis was a beloved grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great-aunt and wife. She was born in Allen, NE, on March 27th, 1932, to Clayton Beneke and Alberta Mary (Kjer) Beneke. As a child, her family moved from Allen and lived in South Dakota right outside the Rosebud Indian Reservation, where she lived through the Depression and dust storms. Her family later settled in Elizabeth, CO, where she attended school and graduated from Elizabeth High School. Joyce was fiercely independent and moved to Denver after high school.
While working full-time, she bought a duplex and decided to live on one side while remodeling the other for resale. She continued this endeavor until she met her husband, Leo H. Lewis, and married him on March 9th, 1976. Together, they continued to purchase properties to remodel and sell them until their last project, Spring Bank Townhomes in Lakewood, CO. Long-time members of nearby Lakewood Country Club, both Leo and Joyce, enjoyed golf, friendships, and many family events there over the years. They also enjoyed many years as faithful Denver Broncos season ticket holders, gathering friends and family for pregame events before home games. Joyce was a fantastic cook, known for many creative dishes and the best pickles you've ever had. She and Leo lived in the Spring Bank community until she peacefully passed on December 26th, 2024. Joyce was a true matriarch in her family and was especially proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sister Phylis Tucker, brother Wayne Skipton, and sister-in-law Kathy Skipton. She is survived by four grandchildren: Scot Chadwick (Stacie), Dawnette Diltz (Travis), Todd Lewis (Amy), and Amanda Dempsey. She also has eight great-grandchildren, multiple cousins and nieces, and many great-nephews and nieces.
