Marie Flanagan Pressley, beloved wife and mother, was born July 17,1925, on her family’s farm in Huntersville, North Carolina. She passed away on January 27, 2025. She was the youngest child of John Greene Flanagan and Anna Mary Laura Elliott Flanagan of Mecklenburg County. Her brothers Johnny and Teen and her sisters, Ila (Mrs. Fred Stewart), Bertie (Mrs. B.C. Sifford) and Kathleen (Mrs. Parks Houser) all predecease her. After graduation from Long Creek High School, Marie came to Charlotte to live with her brother in Dilworth and to work at Hudson Hosiery Mill. Her future husband, Millard Pressley, had moved to Charlotte from Union County where he was also born on a farm. He was living just two blocks from Teen Flanagan, so the two of them fell in love and married on November 27, 1943, in York, S.C. They had many wonderful years together until Millard passed away in 2011. They had three children: Martin Dale Pressley and Joyce Marie Pressley-Grosswald (and son-in-law, Roger Grosswald) of Charlotte and William Millard Pressley of New York City (deceased). Marie and Millard were members of Selwyn Presbyterian Church, and they loved their church family. They had many friends and family members, both in Charlotte and around the country. Marie also had her Sears family whom she loved, working there for 36 years before she retired with honors. She had a green thumb that could grow anything, especially beautiful flowers She loved working in her yard, looking at other gardens and art, reading and playing with her cats and dogs through the years. She made the best brownies in the world, and will always be remembered for her good heart, her determination, and her smile. She will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations to the Marie F. Pressley Memorial, Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church, Habitat for Humanity Fund, 2929 Selwyn Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28209 or to the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the Staff of Carmel Hills Assisted Living Community and her friend, Joyce Wilson, for their love and care during these final years.

A graveside service will take place 2pm Monday, February 3, 2025, at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC 28208 and a Celebration of Life Service 1 PM, Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at Selwyn Avenue Presbyterian Church, 2929 Selwyn Ave., Charlotte, NC 28209.
