Janet Gina Lyman, age 60, of North St Paul, MN, passed away peacefully Friday, December 27, 2024, at Woodwinds Hospital.
Janet was born November 18, 1964, in Buffalo Center, IA, the youngest of seven children born to Cecil and Ruth (Edwards) Steffensen. She has raised on a 340 acre corn, soybean, hog, and feeder cattle farm on the rolling plains of northern Iowa. She graduated from Buffalo Center Community High School in 1983 and received a secretarial certificate from the Albert Lea Area Vocational-Technical School in 1985.
Janet moved to Colorado with her sister Gail, and lived with her brotherHarlan and his family for a while, before renting a room of her own. She worked as a nursing assistant in a nursing home, and as a home heath care provider. But her favorite job was working as a nanny.
She met her husband John at a meeting of a college church group and they were married on June 27, 1987 in Fort Collins, CO. They moved to North St Paul, MN in 1989 so that John could take a job with Control Data Corporation.
Janet had fond memories of growing up on the farm and maintained an interest in the farming life. She always enjoyed caring for children; especially babies and toddlers. She enjoyed meeting new people and learning their life stories.
Janet is survived by her husband of 37 years, John; her 4 brothers: Denny (Beverly) Steffensen of Forest City, IA, Wayne Steffensen of Woden, IA; Neil (Rox) Steffensen of Thompson, IA; and Darwin (Mary, s.o.) Steffensen of Wonewoc, WI; her sister Gail Steffensen of East Chain, MN; 2 nieces: Rebeccah and Elizabeth; and 13 nephews: Larry, Jerry, Chad, Tony, Cory, Joshua, Jeremy, Brendan, Sean, Zach, Ryan, Nicholas and Nathaniel.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents Cecil and Ruth, and her brother Harlan.
A memorial service will be held on Feb 15th at 11am; followed by lunch. The service will be held at: The Sanctuary Church, 5399 Geneva Ave. North, Oakdale, MN 55128.
