Karen Renee Orth (Ireland) passed away Sunday, January 26, 2025 at age 86 at the Green House Homes at Mirasol in Loveland, CO .  The eldest of five children, she was born May 12, 1938  in Scotland SD to Kenneth and Viola Ireland. 

She married her high school sweetheart Arthur Orth in June of 1956.  They both attended college at Yankton College.  Karen served as a country school teacher for multiple grades after graduation.

She enjoyed sewing and was an experienced seamstress.  At 16, she won the South Dakota State “Make it with Wool” contest as a junior and travelled to nationals.  Music was her passion and she shared this love with her children.  She played piano, the organ, and sang in the church choir. 

Her greatest love was her family.  She cherished time with every one of us.  She hosted family holiday, and birthday gatherings.

She was a member of Red Hat Society, TOPS, and 50 year member of PEO Sisterhood.  She was an avid bridge and pinochle player as well as a sports enthusiast and spent many hours watching baseball, football, tennis, horse races, and basketball.

Karen was preceded in death by her husband Arthur, parents, brother Larry Ireland, sister in law Sandy Ireland,  brother in law William Mattheson, brother in law Steven Merrigan.  She is survived by her brother Wayne Ireland (Jean) Sister Mary Matheson, sister Kathy Merrigan-Manning (Patrick), brother-in-law Dwain Orth (Rita),  5 children Mark Orth, Renee Lowe (Chris), Nancy McIlvenna, James Orth (Janice), Jon Orth (Jennifer), along with 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Services are scheduled for Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at First Congregational Church in Loveland, CO.
