Marvin L. Pettinger
December 22nd, 1956 - January 19th, 2025
Marvin L. Pettinger, age 68 of Northglenn, Colorado died January 19, 2025 at Swedish Medical Center, in Englewood, CO.
Marvin was born on December 22, 1956 in Lamar, Colorado to Lawrence Albert and Mollie Leile (Jones) Pettinger.
He grew up in southeast Colorado and had very fond memories of living on a 3,500-acre ranch (Fort Holly); later moving ‘to the city when he was a teenager. He was a good wrestler and graduated from Alameda High School in 1976.
He married Christine K. Dowd on July 4, 1988 in Las Vegas. He always had to tell the story of her being guaranteed to see fireworks on her wedding night and every anniversary!
He received his Associates degree in Electronic Digital/Computer Technology from Red Rocks Community College in 1991 and was most proud of being on the Dean’s list with a 3.94 grade point average.
Before children, they were active in the Colorado Speedboat Association, being boat patrol for the races and traveling to other cities as support. They also enjoyed snowmobiling in the high country. Every vacation Marvin looked forward to traveling to NE Iowa/Nebraska and Louisiana to visit family and friends. He enjoyed smoking all types of meat and wanted to retire and prepare meals on his smoker trailer for events. He also loved camping, boating, fishing and waterskiing.
He worked at a variety of jobs over the years beginning with driving over-the-road with his older brother, delivering the beloved Coors beer out of Golden to the west and hauling mainly produce back to Colorado. His career included numerous warehouse/delivery jobs, cleaning business offices, including D.I.A.’s control tower. He began a computer cleaning and repair business, was a millwright apprentice, working at the Denver Mint, and worked for a while as a Press Operator, making generic pharmaceuticals. He worked 15 years as an Engineer for CenturyLink/Qwest/US West and finished his employment at Pilkington North America, delivering auto/truck glass.
He was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis in March, 2024 and began more hospitalizations in October.
He is survived by his wife, Chris. Children, Merissa Pettinger and Vaughn (Jessica Rose) Pettinger. Grandchild, Emberly Pettinger. Sister, Karen (Cedric) Billings of Arvada and brother, Mike Pettinger of Bailey and many beloved nephews and nieces and ‘greats. He loved being called G. U. M. Great Uncle Marvin. Anytime he saw those ‘greats, he made sure to give them gummy bears or chewing gum each time.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Gene Derry, Lawrence (Larry) Jr., Clarence Edward (Ed) and sister, Sharon Pettinger.
A private memorial service for Marvin will be held at a later date.
