Celebrating a Life Well Lived

Thelma Lucky “Daybreak” Hill was born on August 22, 1950 in Palala, Bong County, Republic of Liberia. She was the first child of the siblings born to the union of Mr. George Augustus Dunbar Jr. and Mrs. Jenneh Paye Dunbar.

Her early childhood was spent on the colloquially known “Dunbar Farm,” in Palala, Bong County. When she reached school age, she was taken to the family home on “Crown Hill” in Monrovia, Liberia. She completed her elementary and junior high school years at St. Theresa Convent school for girls and graduated with a high school diploma from the College of West Africa. Upon graduation, she enrolled in and attended the University of Liberia from which she obtained a degree in Agriculture in 1973.

Thelma was baptized in Jesus’ name at a Pentecostal Assemblies of the World church in Liberia and later received the gift of the Holy Ghost while at home. After graduation from the University of Liberia, she was afforded the opportunity to travel to the United States, where she worked as an air hostess for the Pan American Airlines for several years. It was in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1975 that she met Minister Paul Hill Sr. at True Apostolic Assembly Church. They were married the following year on June 18, 1976. Their 48-year marriage was blessed with six children.

Thelma was faithful and diligent with everything she touched. Through the years she flourished in her work career as an executive assistant, accountant, sales and marketing representative, financial advisor, and home health care aide. As a member of True Apostolic Assembly, she was captain of the cleaning team, head of the kitchen staff, and the agricultural grounds specialist. In 2008, she became the First Lady of True Apostolic, where she served faithfully in her role next to Suffragan Bishop Paul Hill Sr. In her home life she was a dedicated wife and mother who exemplified unconditional love, kindness, humility, good stewardship, but most importantly fear of the Lord. She encountered many challenges in her life but overcame them by faith in God. She did not allow life’s circumstances to deter her from her calling; feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, and visiting the sick. Countless cakes, pies, rolls, and greens have entered the mouths and hearts of so many.

She is preceded in death by her parents George Augustus Dunbar Jr. and Jenneh Paye Dunbar, along with three siblings. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Suff. Bishop Paul Hill Sr. Six children Paul Hill II (Shannon), Eric Hill (Latarsha), Isaac Hill Sr. (Stephanie) Jenneh Hill, Benjamin Hill (Rebecca), and Sylvia Hill. Twelve grandchildren. Sisters: Maude Dunbar, Dr. Winifred Dunbar, Pastor Julien Boayue, Korto Harris of Ghana, Nichole Edwards (Causley), and Kubah Walker (Oliver). The extended Dunbar family, “special children", nieces and nephews, the True Apostolic Church family, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Spielman Mortuary

Spielman Mortuary

Spielman Mortuary has been helping Saint Paul families since 1950 when Kenneth and Helen Spielman purchased the National Funeral Home. For over 30 years, the couple lived above the funeral home and took just one vacation. They sold the home in 1984 to the Willwerscheid family. We still operate Spielman Mortuary with the same traditions of pride, sensitivity, value, and attention to detail that the Spielmans followed for over three decades....
