William "Bill" Charles Kenney
October 23rd, 1932 - January 25th, 2025
"Let us go then, you and I . . ."
William Charles “Bill” Kenney, 92, of Huntington Beach, California, passed away peacefully at his home on January 25, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife and other family members.
Bill was born on October 23, 1932, in Quincy, Massachusetts. He was the last of six children - all sons - born to Thomas Roger and Mary Elizabeth (Duggan) Kenney. He received a strong Jesuit education, graduating from both Boston College High School and later Boston College, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in physics in 1954.
Bill married the love of his life, Anne Louise McCarron, on May 30, 1953, in Auburndale, Massachusetts. Over the span of the next ten years they would bring six children into the world, five boys and one girl, all of whom survive him. Bill and Anne raised their children with great love and wisdom, and no small amount of humor. They were as generous with their children (and later, their grandchildren and great-grandchildren) as they were frugal with themselves.
After a stint in the U.S. Navy, Bill took a job with United Airlines in the suburbs of Chicago. He had a long and successful career as a manager with United, a position that allowed him and his family to travel the United States and other parts of the world. Bill loved being outdoors, and especially loved spending time by the pool or at the beach with family and friends. He instilled in his children a love of the ocean and of swimming, both competitively and recreationally.
Although he lived most of his life outside New England, Bill never lost his beloved Boston accent, especially when vacationing on Cape Cod with the Sullivans and other close friends and acquaintances from his early years in Massachusetts.
Upon their retirement about thirty years ago, Bill and Anne moved from the Chicago area to Huntington Beach. Their California home has been a favorite destination for their children and their growing families these many years. Bill - “Bumpa” to his grandchildren - never turned down the opportunity to go bodysurfing or walking on the beach or pier.
Bill is survived by wife, Anne; children, Brian (Linnea), Christopher (Joy), Sean (Rosangela), Catherine, Matthew (Martha), and Justin (Amy). He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Mary, and his five brothers (Paul, Roger, Edward, Philip, and James) and their wives. He is also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kaitlin.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Partners in Health (www.pih.org), whose work in Haiti and other parts of the world meant a great deal to Bill.
