Constance "Connie" Le'nee Stengel
February 21st, 1939 - January 29th, 2025
Constance Le’nee “Connie” Stengel, 85, of Jefferson passed away peacefully on January 29, 2025 at Alden Estates in Jefferson.
Connie was born on February 21, 1939 in Watertown to Joseph F. and Leonore R. (Carlson) Nevin. She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1957 and completed her Registered Nurses training in 1960 from Columbia Hospital School of Nursing in Milwaukee. She later earned her license as an EMT from MATC.
Connie married Donald J. Stengel on May 8, 1965 in the St. Coletta’s Chapel in Jefferson. She was employed in the nursing field for over 50 years; 35 of those years were with Jefferson County at Forest Lawn, Countryside, and the County’s Home Health Division. During this time, she also worked as an EMT for Kutz Ambulance in the City of Jefferson.
Due to the downsizing of Medicare, the position in the Home Health Division was eliminated, so she became employed in Madison at WPS doing Medicare Compliance Review. She completed her nursing career at Country Nurses as the Director of Home Care, and finished out her working days at the Lake Mills Pharmacy.
In her retirement years, Connie volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul of Jefferson and the Jefferson Council for the Performing Arts. She was also a board member of the Jefferson Senior Center and Jefferson County Aging and Disability Resource Center. Connie was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Jefferson all of her adult life.
Connie always had a pet in the home and sometimes even two. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, reading, and watching sports on TV. Above all else, she loved spending time with her grandkids and would say, “I will always be proud and love the four of you!” Friends were made in all her places of employment and aspects of her life. They were held very dear to her heart. And there was nothing like a good cookout in someone’s driveway in the neighborhood.
Connie is survived by her sons, Kurt (Patricia) and Paul (Kelly); grandchildren, Andy, Aaron (fiancee Nora), Morgan, and Carly; sisters, Shirley (Michael) Buchach, Terry Twedell, Wendy (Larry) Sperberg, and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Adams; and nine nephews and their families.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Don, and two brothers-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at Immanuel Methodist Church in Jefferson with visitation from 9:30 AM until time of service. Burial will take place at Rock River Cemetery following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Connie’s honor may be made to the Jefferson County Humane Society.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dick, Piech, Anne, Tama, Sara, Al, the staff at Alden Estates, Rainbow Hospice and her many medical care providers for their compassionate and loving care. Your kindness and unwavering support will never be forgotten.
