The Island Funeral Home & Crematory
Sandra M. Grimm
March 8th, 1947 - January 25th, 2025
Sandra M. Grimm of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, January 25th, 2025 at MUSC Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina.
Born on March 8th, 1947, Sandra was the eldest child of the late Julius and Mary Kusy (Olechna). She grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania, attended Sacred Heart parish and graduated from Scranton Technical High School in 1965.
Throughout her career, Sandra worked at Penn Security Bank, where she met the love of her life, Richard Grimm. Together they raised their beloved son, Brian, in Dunmore, Pennsylvania. While Sandra worked many years at Lenora’s women’s boutique and spent countless hours volunteering for the fundraising programs at the Deutsch Institute, her most important role was being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and caretaker. After retiring in 2014, Sandra and Rich moved to their most cherished destination, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, a place where they spent countless vacations with close friends and family for more than three decades.
Sandra loved her family deeply, had a witty sense of humor, was a sharp dresser, preferred her food piping hot, kept an immaculate home and enjoyed hosting and cooking for loved ones. She often could be found donning one of her many aprons while bustling around her kitchen making the best breakfast you could find on the island.
She was always the one in charge, yet was also known for brightening so many people’s days with surprise cards and gifts, bringing smiles to faces in some of their most difficult moments. Sandra enjoyed the sunny days of the lowcountry, walking the beach and collecting shells that were sprinkled throughout her home. She loved a good Manhattan (with just a couple drops of sweet vermouth) at happy hour where she liked to sit facing the windows. Although she cherished being in Hilton Head, she never went too long without traveling back to Pennsylvania to see her family and absolutely lived for time with her grandsons.
Sandra is survived by her husband of 42 years, her son, her daughter-in-law, Molly, and her beloved grandchildren, Hunter (5) and Rory (3). She is also survived by both of her siblings, Thomas Kusy, wife Linda (Dux) of Clarks Summit, PA and Linda Merkel, husband Chip of West Chester, PA, along with many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, who all knew her as Aunt Sandy, Grandy, or affectionately, the “cheesy.”
A celebration of her life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, it was always Sandra’s wish that we all do something kind for someone else.
