David Luther Lawley
September 28th, 1937 - January 28th, 2025
David Lawley, 87, died on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at the Greeley hospital surrounded by his family. A graveside service will be held at Fort Logan national Cemetery on February 6, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed by a memorial lunch at the Evans VFW Post 6624.
He was born on September 28, 1937, to Alvin Wilfred and Nora LuRene King Lawley in Erie, Colorado.
After attending school in Erie and East H.S. in Denver, he honorably served in the US Marine Corps from 1954 to 1957. He then enlisted in the US Army in 1958 stationed in Korea, and Germany prior to serving three tours in Vietnam spanning from 1965 to 1971. He piloted the AH-1 Cobra helicopter and achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3. He was awarded several medals, including the Purple Heart.
David retired from Weld County Social Services as the supervisor of the investigation unit.
In May 1982 David married Kathryn Artz in Greeley. David enjoyed leatherworking, fishing, and playing cards, especially poker and pinochle. He volunteered as Boy Scout leader for several years and also a parade marshal in Kersey, Colorado for three years. David also served two terms as the commander of the Evans VFW post 6624.
David is survived by his wife and children, Roger Lawley of Greeley, Kevin Lawley (Colleen)of Arvada, and Angela and Mark Lawley of California. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Abigail, his daughter Vandy, and his son Clark.
