Beers and Story - Belchertown
Veronica C. Shea
April 7th, 1941 - February 3rd, 2025
Veronica C. Shea (née Higgins), born April 7, 1941, in Holyoke, MA, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2025, in Springfield, MA. A devoted daughter of the late Charles and Catherine (Prescott) Higgins, Veronica's journey in life was defined by her compassion and commitment to serving others. A proud 1962 graduate of the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, she dedicated herself to the care of countless individuals, working as a supervisor at two nursing homes in Westfield and as the director of adult day health for the Salvation Army in Springfield. Family was at the heart of everything Veronica did. She shared a loving marriage with her late husband, Kevin Shea, until his passing in 1998. Together, they welcomed two children, Brenda Mazza (John) and Michael Shea (Margaret), who carry forward her legacy of love together with her cherished grandchildren, Julia, Kevin, Tara, and Aidan. Veronica's deep-rooted family values were evident in her devotion to her siblings: Kathleen Higgins, Helen Higgins, Alice Lord, Charles Higgins, Frank Higgins, and Martha Barnum. She is also remembered fondly by her sister, Ann Reed, who preceded her in death together with an abundance of beloved cousins, in laws and friends. Veronica's loves were simple yet profound; she delighted in reading, traveling, and had a special affection for cooking and hosting cherished holiday meals. Her journeys, particularly to Ireland to visit family and in-laws, were highlights filled with fond memories and laughter. The seaside became another haven of joy during family beach activities, bringing a smile to her face and heart. Visitation will be on February 6 from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home, 10 Maple St. A Funeral Mass will be conducted on February 7 at 11 AM at St. Francis of Assisi, 24 Jabish St in Belchertown, followed by her interment at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. For those wishing, donations may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in lieu of flowers.
