Douglas "Doug" Lamar Perkins, born on August 9, 1932, in Jacksonville, Florida, peacefully departed this life on February 4, 2025, in Warner Robins, Georgia, at the age of 92. Doug's journey was marked by kindness, loyalty, and a touch of humor, qualities that endeared him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Friday, February 7, 2025, at Heritage Memorial Funeral Home from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm. A graveside service with military honors will follow at 2:00 pm at Magnolia Park Cemetery, where Pastor Bob Dilks and Pastor Clay Layfield will officiate.

 

After earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic Engineering, Doug embarked on a distinguished career, dedicating 16 years at Boeing in missile and missile systems development. His efforts significantly contributed to the man on the moon project alongside NASA—a testament to his expertise and passion for innovation. Doug further served his country through civil service at Robins Air Force Base, playing a crucial role in national defense and aerospace advancements. Beyond his professional life, Doug was a loyal member of Central Baptist Church, where his technical skills shone as he managed sound and video systems during services. His commitment to his church community reflected his deep faith and dedication to serving others.

 

A fervent Florida State University fan and an enthusiastic golfer, Doug embraced sports with the same fervor he displayed in all aspects of his life. His zest for life was infectious, leaving a lasting impression on friends and acquaintances alike.

 

Doug was a devoted husband to his cherished wife, Nancy Perkins, who survives him. Despite their loss, the family takes comfort in the enduring memories of their life together. Doug is also lovingly remembered by his daughter-in-law, Paula Perkins; his brother, Dewitt; and a host of nieces and nephews who will forever hold him dear in their hearts. His son, Jeffrey L. Perkins, parents, Robert L. Perkins and Sarah Perkins, and brother, Bob Perkins preceded him in death, and are now reunited with him in peace.
