Alvin (Speedy, Junior) Larson passed away peacefully in his home January 31, 2025 at the age of 97. He was born January 8, 1928 in Havre, Montana, an only child. Al led a full and interesting life, from running around Havre with his buddies, to serving in the Marines, to running a grocery chain, to exploring the splendor of Montana, and finally exploring the world with his beloved wife, Shirley. The sparkle in his beautiful blue eyes, perfect comedic timing, and self-deprecating humor allowed him to share his stories with others in a way that captured his audience’s attention and imagination.

His wife, Shirley, shared in his adventures, spending time with him in the Montana outdoors and at their cabin at Big Sky Lake, with their two children, Diane and Doug. They made many fond memories and spent every chance they could there as a family. When Shirley and Al retired, they chose to split their time between the lake and Tucson, to enjoy the warm winters and mountains there. They also used retirement to travel the country and the world, making many friends and memories along the way.

After Shirley passed in 2009, Al remained independent and active, continuing to split his time between Montana and Tucson, and was known for walking miles in both his Tucson neighborhood and the lake. He enjoyed time at U of M Grizzlies’ games and out on the golf course. He finally moved to Tucson full-time and remained there until he departed for his heavenly home.

Although Al was funny and fascinating, with endless stories, he was also known as someone who was kind and generous. He and Shirley supported many causes that were near to their hearts, including scholarship funds. He was full of grit, wisdom, and humility. He was easy to love and will be missed by so many.

He is survived by: his daughter, Diane Larson (James Maples); granddaughter, Alonna Guerrero (Martin Guerrero); grandson, Jeffrey Hoopman (Linda Hoopman); granddaughter, Jessie Kaska (Clinton Kaska); granddaughter, Amy Hoopman (Jacob Tartarian). He is also survived by great-grandchildren and many other amazing family and friends.

He is preceded in death by: his parents, Albin and Amelia Larson; his wife, Shirley Larson; and his son, Douglas Larson.

Per his wishes, there is no service for Al. Loved ones may sign the online memorial book:
