Tribute & Tallent Funeral and Cremations
Lewis Wilson Davis, II
August 11th, 1958 - January 27th, 2025
Lewis Wilson "Pete" Davis II, born on August 11, 1958, Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away on January 27, 2025, as the result of a ramp accident at the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport. He was the beloved son of Lewis Wilson Davis, who passed away in 2009, and Frances Lillian Mangum Davis. Pete was the cherished brother of Mark Hampton Davis (wife, Erin Ferguson Davis) of Greenville, South Carolina, and was the treasured uncle to Alexander Hampton Davis (wife, Kelsie Medlin Davis) of Piedmont, South Carolina and Annabelle Elizabeth Davis of Greenville, South Carolina. In 2024, Pete became the proud great uncle to Hazel James Elizabeth Davis of Piedmont, South Carolina.
Pete earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1980. His love for language and literature was evident throughout his life, as he found joy in books and shared his passion for reading with those around him.
Known for his giving nature and vibrant personality, Pete had a deep appreciation for music of all genres and an unwavering loyalty to Charlotte-area sports. A tireless fan of the Carolina Panthers, he celebrated every game with enthusiasm, which was contagious to all those around him. Pete had a unique fondness for Duke's mayonnaise—a love so profound it became legendary among his friends and family. He often delighted in pairing it with a homegrown garden tomato on fresh bread, seasoned simply with salt and pepper—a combination that brought him immense joy. Pete’s warmth and wicked sense of humor left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. His memory will be cherished by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to share in his life. If you knew Pete, you were loved by Pete.
A fearless and loyal employee of American Airlines, Pete dedicated 40 years of service in Charlotte, starting with Piedmont Airlines, USAir, US Airways and finally American. He was the original "OG". Pete was an exemplary employee who had a strong work ethic and valued his coworkers. His time in the break room was spent creating bonds with his fellow team members that will last a lifetime. His presence at work will be greatly missed.
Finally, Pete would want to remind everyone that we are not guaranteed tomorrow. That we must bring humor into our lives and we must be grateful for all of God's many blessings. May his legacy of kindness and passion continue to inspire those who knew him.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025 at 1:00pm at Providence Presbyterian Church, 10140 Providence Church Lane, Charlotte, North Carolina 28277
