Remembering Barbara Jane White
Barbara Jane White, a beloved spirit born on April 10, 1968, in Washington, D.C., found peace on February 5, 2025, in Bethesda, Maryland. She brought laughter and joy into the lives of all who knew her, whether through her quirky jokes or her thoughtful habit of checking in if you coughed or sneezed.
Barbara was well-known for her involvement with various organizations that promoted inclusion and learning. She spent many years with Opportunities Inc., honing employability skills and engaging in meaningful work. Her time with the Easter Seals Program and the Jubilee community was marked by warmth and friendship, notably with a cherished friend, Sharon, who became like family. The Special Religious Education class at Saint Jane Frances de Chantal parish was a cornerstone in her life, offering her and her family ongoing support.
She had an infectious love for life, visible in her passion for music, films, and books. Barbara was particularly fond of The Monkees, The Beach Boys, and The Wizard of Oz, which she enjoyed exploring through concerts and outings, often accompanied by her sister Joanne and friends like her "buddy pal" Jean. Her love for pizza and McDonald’s Happy Meals was as endearing as her penchant for anything pink, borrowing treasures from the library, or indulging in manicures thanks to Elizabeth, her longtime caregiver whose kindness was invaluable.
Barbara's kindness, consideration, and humor defined her relationships, making her absence profoundly felt. She leaves behind a family who adored her: sisters Joanne Fleming and Catherine White, brothers Robert and Martin White, nieces and nephews Mary, Jonathan, and Elise Fleming, and Jacob and Jessica White, aunt and uncle Diana and Harold Wickersham, and cousins Laura, Aaron, and Lisa Wickersham.
Her family welcomes friends to celebrate her life at a visitation on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Saint Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church in Bethesda, MD, at 10:00 AM. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM, with burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD, at 2:00 PM. A reception will be held after the burial at a location to be determined. Barbara's legacy, filled with warmth and laughter, will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. Her life was a testament to joy and kindness, with an indelible impact on her community and loved ones.
