Stanley Louis Sazama
April 29th, 1928 - February 4th, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stanley Louis Sazama who died peacefully on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at the age of 96. He was born April 29,1928 to Louis and Helen Sazama in Marion, WI.
Stanley served proudly in the Marine Corps from 1951 -1953, stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA. He met the love of his life, Mary Leila Betthauser, in 1946 and they married on October 18, 1952.
Stanley earned his teaching degree at University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. He earned his Masters in Education at Winona State University and a Educational Specialist Degree at St. Thomas University. He taught and coached for South Washington Schools for 31 years. He retired in 1987 as an Assistant Principal at Woodbury Junior High.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was a kind, gentle man, had a great sense of humor and easily made friends. He was nicknamed ‘Stan the Man’ and ‘Saz’. His hobbies included wood working, flea markets, volunteering where needed and collecting baseball cards. His passion for baseball started at the age of 9 and he was thrilled when he was inducted into the Leopolis Baseball Hall of Fame in 2013.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Louis, his sisters, Germaine Manser and Wiladean Ihrig. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Mary, daughters, Mary (Alan) Meuwissen, Sara Antonie, sons, Peter (Cheryl) Sazama, Paul Sazama. He has 10 grandkids and 12 great grandkids and many nieces and nephews.
