Judy Long Pepperdine
August 20th, 1947 - January 8th, 2025
It is with deep respect and fond remembering that we announce the passing of Judy Long Pepperdine on January 8, 2025, in Lacey, Washington. Born on August 20, 1947, in Bakersfield, California, Judy’s journey through life was filled with unwavering love for her family, nature, and community.
Judy's early life traversed the vibrant landscapes of Bakersfield, Yreka, Stillwater, and Kimberley, which perhaps sowed the seeds of her lifelong passion for the natural world. Her profound appreciation for the beauty of nature was a central theme in her life. An avid bird enthusiast, she found joy in maintaining her bird feeders, where her Oildale yard became a tranquil sanctuary, inspiring hours of happiness.
Education was a significant pursuit for Judy. She pursued her studies diligently, obtaining her GED and an Administrative Assistant Certificate from San Joaquin Valley College. Her career was marked by dedicated service as an Administrative Assistant in the Department of Fish and Wildlife and the USDA, where her contributions were always appreciated. A woman of many commitments, Judy was a proud member of both the Elks Lodge in Wasco, California, and the Red Hat Society in Kimberley, Idaho.
Judy’s life was a testament to her love for family and friends. She is lovingly survived by her son, Norman D. Carter, and daughter, Patricia Gonzalez. Her legacy continues through her sisters, Thelma Herwig and Darlene Sanford, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose lives she touched deeply. She will also be remembered by dear friends Reed McGregor and Will Hutchison , whose support and companionship enriched her life in many ways.
Preceding her in rest are her beloved Son , Jerry Carter Jr. and brothers JN Long, and LeRoy Long, as well as brothers-in-law Earl Herwig, Rick Sanford, and Niece Christine Sanford. Their memories remain cherished within Judy's heart.
Though her passing leaves a void, Judy's spirit resonates through the simple beauty she cherished – in the flutter of birds, the blooms of her garden, and the warm bonds of family and friendship.
A celebration of Judy’s life will be announced at Pismo State Beach, Butterfly Grove. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to environmental or bird conservation charities in Judy's honor, capturing her enduring love for the natural world.
Her grace and appreciation for the simple joys of life remain her great gift to all who knew her. She is dearly missed and will always be remembered with deep affection.
