Sharon Lou Bungum Johnson
December 12th, 1940 - January 27th, 2025
Sharon Lou Johnson was born December 6th, 1940, in Minnesota. She was an only child. Her parents, Gordon P. Bungum and Olga A. Ortman Bungum lived in Hayfield, Minnesota when she was born, moving to Austin Minnesota a year later.
Sharon grew up in Austin, Minnesota. She loved to read, she was an active Girl Scout, and played the accordion and the clarinet in band. She met her husband of 57 years, Harold W. Johnson in Austin High School. They married Aug. 31, 1958 and were married until Harold passed in May 13th, 2015.
Harold joined the US Air Force out of High School, Dec. 1958. They moved first to Washington State, then on to Oxfordshire, England where he served. Sharon’s married life took her to Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio, Colorado, Missouri, and then retiring and spending her last 40 years in Colorado.
She loved the family cabin they built and worked on for 40 +years, and exploring Colorado with friends in their (ever getting bigger) campers. She was devoted to her family, but is best known for her beautiful and heartfelt homemade cards. She crafted when ever possible. She also loved her dogs. They were always at her side. Sharon also was a beautiful singer, and in her younger years joined many choirs throughout her moves.
She was very active in her church, supporting international missions for Mexico, Kenya, Indonesia and Nicaragua. Sharon was a caring, loving Christian and her life reflected that every day.
Sharon spent most of her adult life as an at home mother, but as her children grew older she became a Real Estate Broker, and then worked at Arapahoe Community College, as a Program Director Manager, for about 25 years. She loved her job, and actually retired twice from there.
Sharon was surrounded by family in her last few days, with her two granddaughters at her side during her final breaths, hearing the words from the Bible from John 3:36.
Sharon is survived by 4 of her children:
Laurie (Gary) Gilbert, of Colorado, her grandchildren Jason (Nicole) Gilbert, her great grandchildren, Cruz, Havana, Ryker, and Marisa, of Colorado.
Kara (Russ) Overman, great-grandchildren, Tyler, Nathan, and Jordan, of Colorado.
Alaina (Jonathan) Hovland, great-grandchildren, Landon, Bentley, Adelyn, and Tatum, of Colorado.
Jeff (Donna) Johnson, of Ohio, grandchildren Matt (Alycia) Johnson, Jenna (Seth) Short, and great grandchild, Sawyer. All of Ohio.
Scott Johnson, Former daughter in law Phyllis, grandchildren, Casey (Rachel) Johnson and baby Johnson and Kendall (Tina) Johnson, great grandchild, Karson. All of Texas.
Ross (Dena) Johnson, Former daughter in Law Karen, grandchildren Brandon, Samantha, Alyssa Johnson and Brett (Kelsey) Alden, of Texas and Colorado.
Sharon requested for a “family gathering” for her memorial. To share John Denver music, a Chinese meal and a toast to send her off to Jesus, Dad, and all her relatives, and her dogs that she so dearly loved.
Burial: Cherry Hills Community Church, Highlands Ranch, Colorado
