With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mrs. Doris Ann Schumann Nadeau, age 81, of Land O Lakes, FL who passed away January 25th, 2025 at her residence. She was born January 11th, 1944 in Gonzales, TX, a daughter of the late Theodore and Rose Schumann.

Doris was born at home in Gonzales, TX on a rare snow day, and raised on her family farm on Texas Highway 304. Doris and her sisters grew up together, picking cotton into sacks, which was the family business along with their dad's carpentry work and their mom's roadside vegetable store. Doris especially loved taking care of her chickens, helping her mom, Rosie, in the garden, sitting with her dad, Ted, on the porch, and always reading a book. Weekends were spent surrounded by cousins on their grandparent's farm, cooling off in the river, and driving into town. Doris was known as an exceptional student, was Homecoming Duchess in her freshman year and graduated from Gonzales High School.

Doris' first job was working for the Texas Department of State Health Services in Austin while she attended secretarial college. This is where she met Ernest, who was stationed nearby. After marriage she moved with her husband to Tampa, FL to live with and care for Ernest’s grandfather Albert Nadeau.

Doris was a dedicated civil servant who went on to have a long career with the Department of Housing and Urban Development in downtown Tampa, FL, where she was a beloved colleague to many.  She retired in 2002 to take care of her first grandchild, Amber Nadeau. Doris was a dedicated mother spending countless nights and weekends at the local ballfields with her sons. Doris enjoyed worshipping at church, driving her six grandchildren to and from school or restaurants, or yelling Bingo many Friday evenings.  Doris was a lover of books and avid reader that dedicated her retired years volunteering at Pineview Elementary’s library passing on her passion to the many children who passed through.

Throughout her life, she was devoted to the well-being and happiness of her family and friends, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her unwavering generosity, kindness, and compassion touched the lives of all who knew her. Doris Ann Nadeau will be deeply missed, but her legacy of selflessness and love will live on in our hearts forever.

Doris is survived by husband Ernest Albert Nadeau, two sons and daughter in laws Gregory Nadeau (Honoria) and David Nadeau (Jesenia), 6 grandchildren: Israel, Enrique, Lorin, Amber, Wesley, and Nathaniel, 1 great grandchild: Rosaline, and 2 sisters: Madelene Glover (Wesley) of Luling, TX & Margie Haegelin (Tommy) of Kingsville, TX.  She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, February 21st, 2025 at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, 2348 Collier Pkwy, Land O Lakes, FL, Father Christian Galvan officiating.
