Dennis Louis Riel
May 18th, 1952 - February 8th, 2025
Dennis Louis Riel, 72, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2025. Born on May 18, 1952, in Ludlow, MA, Dennis was the son of the late Normand and May T. (St. Onge) Riel. He was raised in the Indian Orchard section of Springfield and resided in Springfield for many years until 1989, when he found his true home in Belchertown, MA, where he lived until his passing.
A devoted and loving husband to Linda Moura Riel, with whom he shared 36 wonderful years, Dennis was also a dedicated father to his three children, Hilary Riel, Nicole Riel and her husband Jimmy Reilly, and Christopher Riel and his fiancée Rachel Lally. Dennis is survived by several siblings, including his sister Diane Bouchard and her husband Mike, his faithful and beloved dog, Mojave, and many friends.
Professionally, Dennis dedicated 31 years to serving as a Field Representative at the National Treasury Employees Union. Having just retired in January 2025, he was appreciated for his steadfast dedication and leadership.
Dennis was known for his passion for learning, absorbing knowledge through his love of books and cinema. His enthusiasm for movies made him quite the connoisseur and a captivating conversationalist. Above all, Dennis found his greatest joy in the company of family.
A calling hour to honor Dennis' memory will be held on Monday, February 17th, from 9:00am -10:00am at the Beers & Story Belchertown Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30am at St. Francis Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to BARC, INC., PO Box 161, Belchertown, MA 01007, to celebrate Dennis' enduring love for animals.
