Calvin "Dusty" Edward Buchanan
September 3rd, 1951 - January 26th, 2025
Forever and our hearts …
Calvin Edward Buchanan, 72, of St. Paul, MN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 26, 2025.
Calvin was born on September 3, 1952, in Memphis, TN, to Calvin Buchanan and Cleopatra Hebron. He was a loving husband, devoted father, caring papa, and dedicated friend. He was known for his unwavering devotion to his family and his deep sense of loyalty.
Calvin met the love of his life, Deborah, in high school, and they shared a lifelong bond. "I’ve been in love with her since I was 14," he would often tell their children: Tanya Clavon (James), Calvin Buchanan Jr. (Shanticka), and Regina Buchanan, as well as his grandchildren: Sean, Tiana, Elijah, Chloe’, Calvin III, Jersey, and Bryce. Together, Calvin and Deborah celebrated 47 years of marriage, built on love, respect, shared memories and music … so much music.
A proud veteran, Calvin served in the U.S. Army for 13 years, earning an honorable discharge in 1989. His service to his country was a source of great pride. He was able to show his family the world and all it had to offer. Sparking in them a love of travel and exploration.
Calvin was known for his quiet strength, his generous spirit, and his ability to make anyone feel at ease. He enjoyed spending time with family, sharing stories, and always had a witty remark for those around him. His legacy of love, hard work, and dedication will live on through his children, grandchildren, and the countless others whose lives he touched.
He was predeceased by his parents, Calvin and Cleopatra, his brothers Albert and Michael, and his sisters Gwen, Deborah, and Geraldine, as well as aunts, uncles, and nieces.
A memorial service to honor Calvin’s life will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at Spielman Mortuary. Following the service, Calvin will be laid to rest with full military honors at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Calvin will be deeply missed but never forgotten, forever in the hearts of his family and friends.

We Entrusted Calvin Buchanan's Care To
Spielman Mortuary
Spielman Mortuary has been helping Saint Paul families since 1950 when Kenneth and Helen Spielman purchased the National Funeral Home. For over 30 years, the couple lived above the funeral home and took just one vacation. They sold the home in 1984 to the Willwerscheid family. We still operate Spielman Mortuary with the same traditions of pride, sensitivity, value, and attention to detail that the Spielmans followed for over three decades....
