Matthew 5:4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted

With heavy hearts, we announce the homegoing of our beloved father, Louie Thomas, who passed away on February 6, 2025, in Colorado Springs, CO, at the age of 81.

Louie was born on February 20, 1943, in Whitesville, West Virginia, to William and Pauline Thomas. He was the fourth of fourteen children. His early years were spent in Whitesville, where he attended Byrd Prileman Elementary School. Later, the family moved to Leevale, where he enrolled at Clear Fork High School. During his time there, he was an active member of the student council and played on the basketball team.

In 1960, Louie’s family relocated to Chicago, IL, where he attended and graduated from Crane High School. Shortly after, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, proudly serving for four years, including a tour in Vietnam, before receiving an honorable discharge.

Following his military service, Louie worked for A. Feiger Roofing Company until his retirement. A devoted father and grandfather, he cherished time with his family and found joy in simple pleasures—especially playing dominoes on Saturdays with his siblings. He was an avid sports fan, always cheering for his favorite teams, the Chicago Cubs and the Bears. Louie also had a deep love for gardening, finding peace in watching his vegetables and fruit grow.

He leaves to cherish his memory his two daughters, Shonnate Faye Williams and Melissa Thompson; eight grandchildren: Micheal, Julian, Ashley, Tyra, Justin Williams, Terry White, Elijah, and Jada Thompson; eight brothers: George, James, Gary, Ronald, William Jr., Ray, Preston, and Paul Thomas; two sisters: Evelyn Harrington and Diane (Faud) Sabbah; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Louie was preceded in death by his parents, Pauline and William Thomas, and three brothers, Russell, Dannie, and Allen Thomas.

His presence, love, and laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit and legacy will forever remain in our hearts.

A memorial service with military honors will take place on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at 3:00PM at Pikes Peak National Cemetery 10545 Drennan Rd. Colorado Springs, CO 80925.
