Claudine Jewel Lackey, 87, passed away on February 6, 2025, in Land O’ Lakes, Florida. Born on April 30, 1937, in Harrisburg, Arkansas, she led a life marked by dedication to her family, an insatiable love for learning, and a deep commitment to her profession.  

Claudine pursued higher education with remarkable determination. She earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro before continuing her studies at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, where she obtained a degree in pharmacy. Her academic journey did not stop there—she went on to earn a master’s degree in pharmacy in Monroe, Louisiana. Her passion for education was so profound that she was often affectionately referred to as a "career student."   

Her professional life reflected this same dedication. Claudine worked tirelessly as a pharmacist and was known among her family as something of a workaholic. Many believed she would never retire, and indeed, after retiring from Town and Country Hospital in Tampa, Florida, she found herself missing work so much that she took on a part-time pharmacist position at Shriner’s Hospital in Tampa. She continued working there for several more years, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to her field.  

Beyond her career and academic achievements, Claudine cherished time spent with her loved ones. She shared an especially close bond with her three sisters—Shirley Clark, Henrietta Robinson, and Brenda Shelton. Together, they created treasured memories by traveling to favorite destinations both within the United States and abroad.   

She is survived by her son Greg Lackey and daughter Karen Kahler; four granddaughters—Megan, Sara, Caitlin, and Melanie; one grandson, Justin; six great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Claude and Jewel Hawkins, her husband Vernon Lackey, and two sons, Scott Lackey and Chuck Lackey.   

A memorial gathering will be held on February 19, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Loyless Funeral Home, located at 5310 Land O’ Lakes Blvd., Land O’ Lakes, Florida 34639.   

Claudine’s legacy of perseverance and love will live on through those who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to all who mourn her passing.
