Matthew Joseph Carney, born on September 27, 1958, in Bethesda, Maryland, passed away on January 11, 2025, in Denver, Colorado.
Matthew was the beloved son of the late John Thomas Carney Jr and Rosanne Geeraert Carney and grew up alongside his three siblings: John T Carney III, the late Tracy Carney Daniel, and Jennifer Carney Duncan. He graduated from Good Counsel High School in Silver Spring, MD and went on to study at the University of Colorado in Boulder.
Known for his free spirit, generosity, kindness, and love of music (especially accompanied by a guitar or a harmonica), Matt lived a difficult life and yet still touched the lives of many with his warm heart and open nature. He was a supportive brother and true friend who always had a song in his heart. He was also a loving uncle to Tommy, Chrissy, Kathleen, Cush and India. Those who knew him will remember him fondly for the joy he brought into their lives.
