David M Van Winkle

David Van Winkle left us peacefully after a long illness on February 10, 2025.  He was able to spend his last day of life at the Hopewell House, which was his wish.

David M. Van Winkle was born in Nebraska City, NE on June 5, 1946.  He was the first child born to Mervyn and Elvine Van Winkle.  Dave spent his first ten years of life in Talmage, NE, then moved to Tigard, OR.  He attended St. Paul Lutheran School, Fowler Middle School, and Tigard High School.  He met his future wife Barbara Eller at a church youth group.  

Dave married Barb on December 30, 1966.  Their first home was in Tigard, OR and they later settled in Sherwood where they lived for the past 57 years. Dave and Barb raised two children, Roberta and Timothy.  They have five grandchildren.  

Dave co-owned and operated Classic Restorations, where he restored classic cars, specializing in Thunderbirds.  He loved spending time with his family and friends, and never missed a chance to connect with others.  Dave also enjoyed travel, car club events, church, family and friends’ sporting events and music programs. Over the years, Dave has volunteered for many different positions on various boards, both through church and the many different car club organizations he was a part of.  

In lieu of flowers, or as a remembrance, consider a donation to Hopewell House, the American Cancer Society, or St. Paul Lutheran Church Youth Group.  Dave was preceded in death by his wife, Barb, and his parents, Mervyn and Elvine.  He is survived by his daughter Robbie (Mike) Weber and son Tim (Danelle) Van Winkle, sister Kay (Dan) Divine, grandchildren Olivia, Vanessa, and Cole Van Winkle and Jessica and Kayla Weber.  In addition, he leaves behind many other heartbroken family members and friends.

Please join us in celebrating the beautiful life of David at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at 2:00 PM to be followed by light refreshments in the church basement.  For those unable to attend in person, there will be a livestream available at https://www.facebook.com/stpaulsherwood/live/ 

David was a blessing in the lives of all that knew and loved him.
