Geraldine Mae McGuire (Lapointe), age 95, died peacefully on February 11, 2025. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, granddaughter, and great grandson.
Geraldine was born in Conneaut, Ohio to Martha M Rauha and Jean R Lapointe. Mostly raised by her Finnish grandparents, she spoke fluent Finnish, enjoyed Finnish culture and foods prepared by her Mumma, and of course her Papa’s Finnish sauna. Her endless summer days were spent on the shores and waters of Lake Erie, and she was a proud member of a group of friends later celebrated as the “Sons of Rest’ (resting on the beach). After high school, Geraldine met and married Willis G. McGuire on March 23, 1947, and would eventually move to Minnesota to raise their family, and where she resided until her death.
Geraldine’s 6 children remain to cherish her memory: William (Kristine) McGuire, Robert McGuire, Barbara (Richard) Haack, Beverly McGuire, Patricia (James) Roelike, and Peggy McGuire. In addition, Geraldine loved and cherished every one of her seventeen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, and twelve great great grandchildren. Yes, she remembered all their names. Geraldine was a daughter, wife, mother, granny, and friend. She provided so much love and support to so many and was loved by all she touched.
Geraldine lived her final years at Ecumen Seasons Maplewood, Assisted Living. Her family is so grateful for the wonderful team of doctors, nurses and aides who supported her throughout her changing care needs. Ecumen Hospice care was added, and we are forever grateful for the love and care they provided.
A celebration of life is planned for Geraldine on Sunday, March 9, 2025, Noon – 4:00pm. It would have been her 96th birthday. Location: Frost Silver English, Community Room, 1957 English Street, Maplewood MN 55109. Contact Beverly McGuire if you have any questions at 612-209-1595.
The family requests no flowers or memorials.
