Verna was born on June 9, 1935, in South Dakota to the late Gilbert and Annie Ogren. While living in Los Angeles married Carl Porter on Nov 4, 1955, at justice of the peace in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Verna graduated from Canby High School and attended Los Angeles City College where she learned shorthand and became a secretary in Los Angeles. She worked with her brother as a flagger she had great stories she told being a flagger when she moved to Oregon and started her family.
She loved her gardening and growing the biggest Zucchini. Verna was very involved with 4-H and had meetings at house with kids. Loved her crocheting and having craft shows, sometimes in the cold weather, bringing her girls. Learning how to make change when items sold at young age.
Verna was the first person who would come to Rhonda's basketball games and keep score. Spending time with her grandchildren at the end would make her smile every time. Her grandson Luke carried her outside to be able to have campfires and back into the house when she was cold. Family was everything to her, she will be missed.
