Joyce Ann Cattano
October 16th, 1934 - January 8th, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce Joyce Ann Cattano, 90, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025 in Santa Barbara, CA, after a brief illness.
Born October 16, 1934 in Hollywood, CA, Joyce was the oldest of 4 children of Jack and Grace Whittington. Joyce resided in many different towns across the state until settling in Goleta, CA in 1967 where she raised her two sons Michael & Alan Forsyth.
She married Terry Cattano on February 15, 1987, starting a new chapter in their lives making many new memories camping and traveling, attending baseball games and barbeques with friends.
She began her long career at University of Santa Barbara in the Chemistry Department in 1969, working various positions. Joyce loved her job, being “of use” was a big part of her personality. For someone as quiet and demure as Joyce was to those close to her, she carried a very calming presence. After retiring twice, she only made it official in early 2023 after an injury put her off her feet. She had quick and miraculous recovery for an 89-year-old and started yet another new chapter. Although finally leaving work was “annoying” in her words, it brought a new way of life and a far closer relationship with her grandson.
In April 2010, Joyce became a great grandmother to Emily, daughter of grandson Bradley Forsyth. For the last few years, Bradley spent most Sunday’s together with Joyce running errands and enjoying time at Goleta Beach and Lake Los Carneros with her and Terry.
Joyce is survived by her husband Terry, two sons Michael (Denise) and Alan, grandson, Bradley, and great granddaughter, Emily.
Joyce will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Per her request, there will be no funeral services. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Heather Gardner, Erica James, Lisa Katnik and many others. Their care, friendship and support for Joyce will never be forgotten.
