Dorinda Jean Long

We announce with profound sadness the passing of Dorinda Jean Long (née Weeks), who left us on February 16, 2025. She passed away in her home in Alturas, FL, leaving behind a legacy defined by love and generosity. Born on January 29, 1950, in Winter Haven, FL, Dorinda lived a life that was both full and vibrant, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Dorinda was a proud alumna of Winter Haven High School, graduating in the class of 1968. She was an active member of the Marching Devilettes, a testament to her school spirit and dedication. Her professional journey took her to State Farm, where she worked as a typist for an impressive 38 years before retiring in 2008. Her colleagues remember her as a pillar of support and dedicated to her work and family.

In her personal life, Dorinda was cherished for her generous nature and her dedication to her family. She had an extraordinary ability to speak her mind, and those close to her valued her forthrightness and authenticity. Her loyalty to the Florida Gators was unwavering—despite the season's outcome—and her passion for the sport was matched only by her love for her family.

Dorinda leaves behind her loving son, Kevin Glave and his wife, Erika Cantu-Glave, her grandchildren Kevin Glave Jr (AJ) and Addyson Jacobs who will forever honor her memory. She is also survived by her sister, Sheila Harris, and brother-in-law, Mike Harris, as well as her adored nieces, Kimberly Menary Reed and Melanie Menary Challender. Each member of her family carries with them the lessons of kindness and consideration she exemplified throughout her life.

A celebration of Dorinda's life will be held on Thursday, February 20th, at Kersey Funeral Home, 108 Lake Stella Dr, Auburndale, FL 33823. Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation at 1:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM, to commemorate a woman whose presence was a blessing to all.
