Raymond Curtiss Carter
July 3rd, 1932 - June 13th, 2021
Obituary ~ Raymond (Ray) Curtiss Carter Ray was born on July 3, 1932 in Moro, Arkansas. He was the third child born to Raymond Curtis Carter, and Fannie Bell Johnson. Both parents and his two siblings, Mazella Green (Henry) and Aslee Garr (Howard), precede him in death. Sometime in the 1940s Ray†™s father moved the family to Davenport, Iowa. Raymond rested in the Lord on Sunday morning, June 13th at 11:29 a.m. to spend his eternal life in heaven with Christ Jesus. Ray was raised in a Christian environment where he was united with the Third Baptist Church in Davenport, Iowa where he was a faithful member and an active usher of Macedonia Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado. Ray attended public schools in Davenport, Iowa. Then he served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 and spent 12 months in active combat in South Korea. As a result of his combat duty, he suffered significant hearing loss. We are excited that today Dad will receive his full military honors. On a beautiful sunny summer day on July 31, 1955, Ray married Alyce Marie Buford. From this union two sons were born Vincent Anthony, and Mark Landis of Atlanta, Georgia, and one daughter Wendy Nichelle Houston (Robert) of Washington, D.C. Ray†™s son Vincent preceded him in death in 1963. Raymond moved his family from Davenport to Denver, Colorado in January 1970. There he raised his family and established his business Carter Enterprises of Denver, Janitorial Supplies & Services. He successfully operated his business until the mid-1990s. Raymond loved his family and loved to travel. In fact, he was the first of his family to travel to Senegal West Africa and Ghana, to Mexico and Montreal, Canada. After retirement he volunteered at the Denver Museum Natural & Science. The entire family wishes to thank the staff at InnovAage (PACE) Program, Almost Like Home (Daneka and Unyque who accepted the challenge of Dad†™s condition of dementia, and lovingly cared for our father), and Ashley Manor. We especially would like to thank Pathways-Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado (Nonprofit) for being with our Father during his transition. We also wish to thank Ray†™s close friends Ms. Evelyn Gordon and Ms. Pecola Grace. Raymond is also survived by his two grandchildren Vincent Alexander and Chloe Nichelle both of Atlanta, Georgia, and a host of extended family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Raymond to: Pathways - Hospice Care | Palliative & Grief Services, www.pathways-care.org.
