Helga E Schroeder

Helga E. Schroeder was born December 28, 1931 in the eastern part of Germany in the state of East Prussia to Johann & Erna Dau. Helga passed away at age 92, on January 15th, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Schroeder and her 2 sisters, Gisela and Irma. Helga grew up in Germany on a farm and was 8 years old when WWII began. She was the oldest of 3 girls. Her youngest sister died of diphtheria during the war. Helga and her sister Irma became orphaned when she was 12. She was placed in a foster home and in her late teens was contacted by relatives in Chicago. They offered to sponsor her and her sister to come to the United States. At age 20, she immigrated to America. One year later, Paul Schroeder followed her to Chicago and they were married 3 months later on November 28, 1953. They spent the next 67 years together taking care of each other. They lovingly welcomed their children Rose, Kathy and Peter into their home and enjoyed entertaining friends and family. Paul & Helga stayed in the Chicago area for almost 40 years before deciding to move to beautiful Colorado. Helga's favorite activities were gardening, quilting, and baking for others. She gave generously of her time and resources to so many people and had a special way with animals. She also was a faithful teacher to 4 & 5 year olds every Sunday morning for 30 years, and was a Bible Study Fellowship children's leader for many years. Helga is survived by her 3 children and their families: Rose & Tom Mock, Kathy & Evan Fadel and Peter & Beth Schroeder, 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Helga and her husband, Paul, are buried at Fort Logan National Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at Longmont Calvary Church, 2101 Gay St. Longmont, CO at 10am on Friday, February 9, 2024.
