David A. “Dave” Johnson, 73, of Woodbury, New Jersey, passed away peacefully with his daughter on Thursday, February 20, 2025.
Legacy
David Alfred “Dave” youngest son of the late Walter Roscoe and Mildred Monroe Johnson was born on April 5th, 1951, in Camden, New Jersey. He departed this life on February 20, 2025.Dave attended the public schools of Camden County, where he graduated from Camden High School in June 1970. During his high school days, he worked at the YMCA after school assisting with many programs for the youth. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force and started his 20-year career at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. His first assignment was at Kincheloe Air Force Base in Michigan, as Military Police Dog Handler, whose job was training the dogs to sniff out bombs in the Vietnam War. His second assignment was to U-Tapao Royal Thai Navy Airfield, Thailand. After Thailand he cross-trained into the transportation career field. After this assignment he came home in December 1972 and married his childhood sweetheart Patzy Thomas from this union they had a son David Jr. who proceeded him in death and a daughter Dantee. His assignments took him all over the world to Texas, Michigan, Thailand (Vietnam War), North Dakota, Honduras, Saudi Arabia (Dessert Storm), Italy, Korea, North Carolina, and finally Lanley AFB, VA where he retired June 1990 with a 20-year career span. After his retirement from the AirForce he returned to New Jersey and became a Correction Officer at River Front State Prison in Camden, NJ and then transferred to Trenton State Prison in 2009. He completed 15 years of service and retired due to health issues. Dave loved people and was very kind and generous, always helping others in need. Dave loved Jazz, Jerry Springer, was a pretty good chess player, boardgames (dominos) and his signature Sunglasses. He was definitely an Eagles fan and challenged all the haters. He was a connoisseur of all types of wines and enjoyed them immensely!Proceeding his death were his parents and brother Walter Johnson. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Dantee Johnson Thomas (Kelly), grandchildren Lynda, DeeKen Kelly and Kaeden. Brother James Johnson, ex-wife Patzy Johnson and a host of old friends from the neighborhood where he grew up.
Farewell Tribute
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on March the 3rd from 10:00AM to 10:45AM in the McGuinness Funeral Home - (Woodbury Location), 34 Hunter Street, Woodbury, New Jersey. Funeral Service at 11:00AM. Interment (At a later date) Saturday, April 5th at 11:00AM in the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery Williamstown, New Jersey.
