Peter P. Castello
March 19th, 1939 - February 5th, 2025
Peter P. Castello passed away peacefully on February 5th, 2025 with family by his side. Peter was born on March 19th, 1939 in Brooklyn, NY to parents Victor and Frances Castello.
Peter grew up attending public schools in Brooklyn and was an avid fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers, but his love for the Dodgers wasn’t just about baseball; it was about belonging to something greater than himself, a trait that would define his entire life. Peter graduated from St. John’s University, also in Brooklyn, NY in 1960, but it was what happened after graduation that would set the course for the rest of his life. While back on campus the following year he was introduced to Catherine Caputo, who was a senior at the University. One year later, on May 12th, 1962 Peter and Cathy were married and would enjoy 62 years together.
Peter’s corporate career flourished. From his vice presidency at Avildsen Tools and Machines to his leadership position at Overhead Door Corporation, and finally to his role as President of Republic Builders Products, Peter proved himself not just as an executive but as someone who could build connections wherever he went. Peter and Cathy frequently relocated throughout their marriage and always enjoyed the lasting friendships they made in each state. While living in State College, PA Peter started to follow Penn State sports teams; especially football and wrestling, a hobby that would bring him great joy throughout his life.
Retirement for Peter wasn’t an ending but a new beginning. Melbourne, FL became their new home and true to his nature, Peter threw himself into community service with the same enthusiasm he had shown throughout his career. Peter was very active with the Rotary Club of Suntree and served as an Assistant District Governor. Peter and Cathy hosted many foreign exchange students and visitors through Rotary. Peter volunteered as a docent for the Foosaner Art Museum, as a reader and mentor in elementary schools for Rolling Readers and Take Stock in Children. Peter was also a member of The Elks and The Knights of Columbus. What Peter loved most about volunteering and civic organizations was meeting and getting to know people. Peter’s curiosity and sense of adventure never wavered and he and Cathy traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe. Peter’s vast life experiences made him an excellent storyteller and he especially loved to talk about his children and grandchildren who he was very proud of.
For those who knew Peter, his story wasn’t just about the positions he held or the places his lived – it was about the lives he touched. His was truly a life well lived, filled with purpose, adventure, and above all, love.
In addition to his wife Catherine, Peter is survived by his three children and four grandchildren, daughter Elizabeth (Davies) who resides with her husband William and daughter Reese in Annapolis, MD. Son James who resides with his wife Dara (Klein) in Bala Cynwyd, PA and their children Jason and Eliza and son Timothy who resides with his wife Tina (Lawson) in West Chester, PA and Cape May Point, NJ and
their son Joseph. Peter is also survived by his sister Joann (Carson) and her husband William who reside in Cary, NC as well as nephews Adam and Michael Carson, their families and many cousins.
