Robert "Bob" Cloughley
May 24th, 1941 - February 22nd, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Robert "Bob" Cloughley, who departed this life on February 22, 2025, in the comfort of his home. Born on May 24, 1941, in Jersey City, NJ, Bob lived a life marked by dedication, service, and love for his family and community. After graduating from Ridgefield Park High School, Bob proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War Era as a paratrooper in Panama, a role that reflected his courage and commitment to duty. Following his military service, he was known for his hard work and integrity, contributing his skills as a carpenter, park ranger and finally as a clerk at the post office in Lakewood, NJ. He was the “shipping department” for the family home businesses. These roles, though humble, were testament to his steadfast nature and work ethic. Family was the cornerstone of Bob's life. He is predeceased by his parents, Walter and Ann (Bachman) Cloughley. Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Dorothea “Dottie” (Egerton) Cloughley, whose steadfast partnership was his greatest joy. Together, they raised four wonderful children: Matt Cloughley, Iliana Grace Cloughley, Cheyenne Autumn Cloughley, and Alli Angelina Cloughley as well as opening their home over the years to more than 14 medically fragile foster children. Additionally, he leaves behind his sister, Gale Taylor, and sister-in-law, Pamela, who will fondly remember him always, and nephews and nieces Jon Egerton (Akiko), Clark Egerton (Denise), Wendi Curry (Tom), and Laura Taylor. Those who knew Bob will recall his love for little things like taking pictures and eating ice cream, and his passion for war, action, and sci-fi movies. He cherished the simple pleasures and held dear the times spent driving around his kids, always finding joy in their company. His dedication was evident whether working or relishing a moment of relaxation with a TV show or movie. A special thank you to Glen and Carla, our "best man" Ray and all our friends, neighbors and tenants for their support and help. A visitation to honor Bob's life will be held on March 5, from 4 to 7 pm at the Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home. The funeral service will occur the following day on March 6 at 9 am, also at the funeral home, with military honors to be rendered at 11 am at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests expressions of condolence to be directed to the Berkshire Hills Music Academy.
