Peggy Joyce Sheffield
May 23rd, 1943 - February 20th, 2025
Mrs. Peggy Joyce (Futch) Sheffield, age 81, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2025, at the Cape Canaveral Hospital in Cocoa Beach, Florida surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Sheffield was born May 23, 1943, in Plant City, Florida to Henry Ford and Joyce (Sharpton) Futch. She was a resident of Cocoa Beach since 1993, coming from Lakeland, Florida. She graduated from Plant City High School and was a member of the Plant City Strawberry Festival Court of 1961. Peggy was a loving and devoted military spouse, supporting her husband, Robert A. Sheffield, through 28 years of military service with various assignments in Germany and the United States. During this time, she also worked as a bank teller, loan officer, manager, and Vice President for banks in Pittsburg, Kansas; Springfield and Lorton, Virginia; and Plant City and Lakeland, Florida to include Polk Federal, Hillsborough Bank, First State Bank, First Union, and Southeast Bank. After the passing of her beloved husband in 1988, Peggy fulfilled a life long dream of living at the beach and became a resident of Cocoa Beach, Florida in 1993, where she lived happily until her passing. Peggy retired as a Photogammetry Specialist with SAIC in Melbourne, Florida. After her retirement, she kept busy as a secret shopper for Pepsico, and performed notarial duties for real estate closings. She traveled extensively to Europe, the Mediterranean, and the United States. Peggy was an avid race car driver in her younger years, ammassing many trophies. She enjoyed reading, drinking Coca Cola, sitting on her balcony looking at the ocean, and loved spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband - LTC Robert Alvis Sheffield; brother – Alvin Boone, Jr.; and daughter-in-law – Melanie Sheffield. Peggy is survived by her loving family, 2 daughters – Kimberly Sheffield of Miami Lakes, Florida and Victoria Sheffield of Cocoa Beach, Florida; son – Robert Sheffield of Melbourne, Florida; 4 sisters – Nancy Gail (Carson) Taylor of Merritt Island, Florida; Marsha Lucille Kirkwood of Key West, Florida; Linda Susan (Ollie) Davenport of Hudson, Florida; and Debbie (Bob) Howard of Deland, Florida; 4 grandsons – Trey (Karlee) Bailey, Brandon Bailey, Robert Sheffield, and William Sheffield; 2 great grandsons – Malachi Bailey and Mikah Bailey. Funeral services will be held 1pm Saturday, March 1st at Kersey Funeral Home with visitation from 12-1pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Auburndale Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life will be held on March 9th from 1-3 pm at the Emerald Seas Condominium, 3440 Ocean Beach Boulevard, in Cocoa Beach, Florida.
