William Howard Iverson, 86Notus, ID

William Howard Iverson, a devoted family man and respected member of the Notus community, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at the age of 86 from injuries sustained in a collision with a semi-truck.

Howard was born in Nampa on January 17, 1939 to Henry and Mabel Iverson.  He was the 12th of 13 children in a blended family.   Howard was raised with strong family values and a deep connection to the land. Early in life, he began farming alongside his father at the family farm near Notus—a foundation that would guide his work ethic and appreciation for rural life.

Howard attended high school in Notus where he distinguished himself not only academically but also as student body president and an active team member in various sports.  The friendships he formed in school lasted his entire lifetime, to this day his classmates all meet once a month to share a meal together.

On June 21, 1959, Howard married his high school sweetheart, Laura Lee Goodson. Together, they built a life steeped in hard work and community. After purchasing a farm in the Notus/Parma area, they raised their children and nurtured a warm, close-knit family environment.

In June of 1969 Howard and Laurie were baptized as Jehovah’s Witnesses.  Howard was willing to use his time and talents to help others and in 1972 began serving as an elder in his congregation.  As such he was a kind and empathetic listener and spent much of his time assisting people.  He was beloved by all those he helped.

Howard's career was as varied as it was distinguished. He began working at Bennett Machine and Welding, where he quickly became known as an excellent welder and machinist. His skill and determination led him to eventually purchase his own machine shop in Parma, where he dedicated many years to repairing farm equipment—a service that became vital to the local agricultural community.  After retiring from his machine shop Howard joined his youngest son in his concrete ditch repair business and together, they built it up.  Howard was incredibly strong and frequently outworked people half his age.  He continued to work at that until 2020 at the age of 81.

Beyond work, Howard and Laura transformed a 40-acre farm with a grand 1918 two-story house into a beloved home. Their passion for improvement was evident in every project, making the property a wonderful place to live and a testament to their shared vision. In 1989 they moved back to Notus to the old family homestead where he continued to live for the remainder of his days. They also acquired a small house in Terrace Lakes, where they enjoyed countless happy moments with their grandchildren. Whether it was swimming in the pool, playful wrestling matches, teaching them to drive, or enjoying barbecues at Silver Creek Plunge, Howard's life was filled with warmth, laughter, and love.

Howard is survived by one sister, Miriam Iverson, of Phoenix Arizona.  He had three children, Vicki “Jeanene” Iverson, Gregory Howard Iverson, and Darin Brent Iverson.  Jeanene preceded him in death.  He has 8 grandchildren, Victoria Neill, Laurann Franco, Alex Iverson, Nikki York, Mikhail Iverson, Ian Iverson, Dace Iverson, Wyse Iverson, and Josalyn Iverson. He has three great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Howard was deeply loved and his passing has left a huge hole in all of our lives.
