It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of William (Bill/Billy) Jackson Jr., who departed this life on February 18, 2025, in the arms of his daughter. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, whose kindness, wisdom, fairness, and unwavering love touched the lives of many.

Born on May 31, 1945, in Sumter, SC, Bill lived a life filled with purpose and dedication to his family. He was predeceased by his parents, William Eugene (Gene) Jackson, Sr. and Emily Kolb Jackson, and by his beloved wife, Jean Spratt Jackson, whom he deeply loved and cherished throughout their 47-year marriage.

Bill graduated from Sumter High School in 1963 and went on to earn his BS in Biology from Clemson University in 1967.  He retired as a career biologist with South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control – SCDHEC (more recently known as South Carolina Department of Environmental Services -SCDES).

Well-known for both his love of woodworking and his masterful woodworking skills, Bill’s creations will leave a lasting impact for his family to cherish.  Matching his passion for woodworking, was Bill’s love of the ocean and his heart for Clemson Tiger Football. His greatest joy, however, was his daughter and granddaughters whom he revered beyond measure.

Bill is survived by his only child, Kara Jackson Meetze (Christopher Donald Meetze, Sr.); grandchildren, Taylor Marie Martin, Mason Alexis (Allie) Martin, Christopher Donald (CJ) Meetze, Jr., and Wynn Josey Meetze; two sisters, as well as many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.   Bill will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A private graveside burial service for immediate family will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Columbia, SC on Monday, March 3, 2025.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the SC Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association to advance critical disease research and support caregivers of Alzheimer’s and Dementia patients. Though he is no longer with us, Bill’s love and legacy will forever live on in our hearts.
