Lienkaemper Funeral Chapel-Ontario
Leona Agnus Gillihan
August 27th, 1927 - February 21st, 2025
Leona Scott Gillihan, a loving mother, grandmother, and cherished matriarch, passed away on February 21, 2025, at the age of 97. Born in Nyssa, Oregon, on August 27, 1927, Leona’s life was a beautiful reflection of love, devotion, and strength. A proud graduate of Nyssa High School in 1945, Leona grew up in a small, close-knit community that shaped the generous woman she became. In 1945, she married Ross A. Scott, and together they raised seven children: Sandra (Gordon) Kundert, Sharon (Jeff) Gedde, Wanda Scott, Janet (Gary) Griffin, Donna (Lenard) Hansen, Ross Scott and Thomas Scott. Leona’s life was defined by her love for her family. After the passing of her husband Ross in 1970, she continued to guide and care for her children with unwavering devotion. She found love again with Abrey Gillihan, whom she married. They shared a loving partnership until his death in 2001. Throughout her life, Leona was known for her nurturing spirit and her ability to make every moment feel special. She was an exceptional mother and grandmother, always providing a warm, welcoming home where family gathered to enjoy her delicious meals and embrace the comfort of her presence. Leona’s love for gardening was as deep as her passion for cooking, and she took great pride in growing her own flowers, vegetables, and herbs. Her kitchen was often filled with the scents of freshly prepared meals, shared with those she loved. Leona was preceded in death by her beloved sons Ross and Thomas, who hold a special place in the hearts of their family. She is survived by her five children, many grandchildren, great?grandchildren, and great great grandchildren who will carry on her legacy of kindness, love, and strength. Leona’s passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of all who knew her, but her memory will forever live on in the generations she nurtured and the many lives she touched with her warmth, wisdom, and love. She was a woman of remarkable grace, and her legacy will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of her family. Rest in peace, Leona Scott Gillihan, whose love and nurturing spirit will never be forgotten.

Our story begins in 1907 when the Peterson family, who owned a furniture store in Ontario, helped with funeral arrangements and sold caskets from the store’s basement. Over the years, the business has grown and had a number of owners, partnerships and names. Among them was our current namesake, the Lienkaemper family, who purchased the family funeral home with the mission of helping families in the Ontario community. ...
