Carla Jean Holm

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Carla Jean Holm who left us on February 22, 2025 at the age of 67. She was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, wife and friend who will be truly missed. She was born on August 27th, 1957 in Missoula, MT and also lived in Massachusetts, Ohio, North Carolina, and Michigan before retiring in Bluffton, SC just over 3 years ago.

Carla was preceded in death by her father James, her mother Marjorie, father-in law Dean, mother-in-law Betty, brother-in-law Brad, and three nephews Kalvin, Jeremy, and Brent. She is survived by her husband Steve, two children Christopher and Omaira (Matt), three grandchildren Sean (Abbie), Jacob, and Kayley, four sisters Alita, Rita, Sherri, and Jamie, five brother/sisters-in-law Vicky (Steve), Randy (Debbie), Deanna, Jeff (Theresa), and Laurie (Jim), and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Carla did not complete High School at 18 years of age, but enrolled in an adult High School program at Atherton High School in Flint, MI while in her late 30's to earn her diploma. She would not be satisfied with getting a GED. Carla held a variety of jobs throughout her career, but nothing was more satisfying to her than helping others in any way she could. She was responsible for planning and executing several Angel Tree projects providing Christmas gifts and food baskets for families in need, and volunteered to work at monthly food giveaways at our sister church in Flint, MI. She continued in retirement at our church in SC, donating to the backpack buddies and the church's food pantry as well as restocking the pantry as long as she was physically able.

While homebound, Carla enjoyed scrolling through Facebook and would take screenshots of particular sayings or poems that really caught her eye. There could be close to 1000 in the cloud! One poem in particular she printed, framed, and hung in her sewing room which I would like to share here:

If Tomorrow Never Comes

If I knew it would be the last time that I'd see you fall asleep, I would tuck you in more tightly and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time that I'd see you walk out the door, I would give you a hug and kiss and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise, I would videotape each action and word, so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time, I could spare an extra minute or two to stop and say "I Love You," instead of assuming, you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time I would be there to share your day, well I'm sure you'll have so many more, so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow to make up for an oversight, and we always get a second chance to make everything right.

There will always be another day to say our "I Love You's", and certainly there's another chance to say "Anything I can do's".

But just in case I might be wrong, and today is all I get, I'd like to say how much I love you and hope we never forget, tomorrow is not promised to anyone, young and old alike, and today may be the last chance you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you are waiting for tomorrow, why not today?
